At the Pathology Department of Anatole Medical Center, we
analyze structural and functional defects caused by diseases in tissues and
cells in accordance with an international quality control program (CAP) using
various laboratory techniques.
At our department, we also accept surgical pathology and
cytopathology samples, and where necessary, carry out autopsy.
At our pathology department, there is a broad set of immunohistochemically
markers which are applied to help diagnosis in cases when the type or origin of
a tumor cannot be identified with ordinary pathology procedures.
Cytopathological examinations cover samples collected from
the vagina and the cervix as well as fluid samples collected from the body. In
addition to the routine PAP smear method which is used for cytology samples
collected from the vagina and the cervix, fluid based thin-layer technology
(Thin-Prep method) is also used, and important steps are hence taken in early
diagnosis of cancer cases. The Thin-Prep method can be used in all bodily
fluids.
Sputum cytology conducted at certain intervals plays a
major role in early diagnosis of lung cancer. For this reason, we evaluate
repeated sputum cytologies together and thus achieve the right diagnosis.
Early diagnosis of cancer can be made with fine needle
aspiration biopsy which is applied by a pathologist or by a radiologist
accompanied by an interventional radiologist and a pathologist on superficial
masses of some organs and tissues such as the breast, thyroid gland, salivary
gland, subcutaneous soft tissue masses and lymph nodules. During this
procedure, with an early cytologic examination of the patient, it is determined
whether the tissues collected are sufficient or not, and thereby, unnecessary
future interventions are prevented.
