WHAT IS NEUROLOGY?

Neurology is the field of science that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of; brain, nerves exiting the spine and disorders caused by muscular problems.

Nervous System is an extremely complicated system by its structure and function used in the management of the body. Inspection of this system is the disclosure of its functions. Disorders regarding the brain, spine and surrounding nerves (such as; tumor, infection, accidents, etc.) are generally the same, but the type and broadness of the problem changes depending on the functions of these structures. Symptoms of problems regarding surrounding nerves are the loss of sensation and strength in the area the nerve is connected to. Sweating and blood circulation is also impaired in these areas due to neural effects.  This is due to the central nervous system fibers being embedded into the surrounding nerves.

Spine is the main road that carries sensation from organs to the brain and motor (regarding motion) impulses from brain to surrounding nerves. Disorder of this structure will cause loss of strength, loss of sensation and inability to perform central functions. Also an individual with spinal damage loses control over urination and defecation.

Brain disorders may be general or local. While a tumor or a trauma (damage or injury) might appear with local symptoms, brain infection (encephalitis) or poisoning would present with symptoms affecting the whole body.

Electroencephalogram method, Computed Brain Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging devices use in the field of medicine, allowed the early diagnosis and on-site treatment of this disorder.
