Colonoscopy is a test used to detect changes or
abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. During this
procedure, a long, flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted into the
rectum. A small video camera located at the end of the tube allows the
doctor to see the entire inside of the colon. If necessary, polyp or
abnormal tissue seen during the colonoscopy can be removed. Tissue samples
(biopsy) are also taken during colonoscopy.
In the method, a hollow balloon is placed from the mouth
to the stomach with an endoscopy device. Then the balloon is inflated and
a fullness is created in the patient’s stomach and a feeling of satiety is
provided. Gastric balloon is defined as a non-surgical method, unlike stomach
reduction surgery methods. However, an important difference from other
methods is that the balloon is removed after a certain period of time (6-12
months) and the results provided are not permanent.
In this method, a balloon is inserted into the stomach by
passing the esophagus through the mouth with the help of endoscopy. The
completely bloodless procedure is performed under mild anesthesia. It is
inflated by filling approximately (400-650) cc of air into the stomach, and it
is easily separated from the tube it is attached to and left in the stomach.
Balloon is used in the temporary treatment of obesity and helps with weight loss and
protection of lost weight. In addition, it helps to weaken the patients
who will be operated before bariatric surgery and to reduce the surgical risks. However,
the balloon can be left in the stomach for a maximum of (6) months. If the
person does not adopt an appropriate diet or exercise program after the balloon
is removed, he can regain weight.
