ORTHOPAEDICS & TRAUMATOLOGY

Orthopedics & Traumatology deals with the management of joint, muscle and bone diseases and is one of the fastest evolving specialties of medicine.

Since its foundation in 1996, the Department of Orthopedics has treated ten thousands of patients with high scientific standards and advanced technology, and has become one of the leading reference centers in the region. In addition to a solid local patient base, the department also treats a high number of patients referred from other cities and countries in the Middle East.

Around 2000 orthopedic surgical procedures are performed yearly in 4 specialized orthopedic operating theaters equipped with the latest technology imaging systems and surgical instruments. Successful outcomes are assured with the teamwork of 9 full time and 4 part time experienced orthopedic surgeons with subspecialty training. Six of the orthopedic surgeons are full professors and have an outstanding academic background.

Our surgeons are specialized in sports medicine/arthroscopic surgery, joint arthroplasty, pediatric orthopedics, spine surgery, foot and ankle surgery and orthopedic oncologic surgery and are invited as lecturers in many national & international congresses events. The orthopedic team has been a pioneer in the implementation of the latest orthopedic concepts including patient specific total knee arthroplasty, hip arthroscopy, advanced cartilage repair techniques, knee multi-ligament injuries. All surgeons are active in national and international subspecialty societies and have organized a multitude of courses, congresses and symposia.

Continuing education is an essential component of patient care and this is done with bi-weekly grand rounds and journal clubs which are attended not only by the orthopedic team but physicians from other hospitals who would like to keep abreast of developments or consult their patients. Four books, (one in English) over 100 articles, organization of Advanced Arthroscopic Techniques Courses, teaching of fellows from Turkey & Azerbaijan are other indicators of our commitment to teaching in addition to high quality patient care.

Complex patients are discussed in weekly meetings with orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists and physical therapists, ensuring a correct diagnosis and the best possible management strategy. In addition to efficient surgery, special emphasis is placed on pain control and post-operative rehabilitation, resulting in minimum hospitalization time and earlier to return to work or sports.
