Veni Vidi Göz tries to provide an environment where they can be examined, especially for children.
Many eye problems can occur in children. Early
diagnosis and treatment is important for the prevention of eye diseases. It
is beneficial for children to have routine eye examinations regularly.
Please take timely precautions for eye diseases
that prevent your children’s school, social success and development. Even
a simple examination for your children on time can be enough to prevent many
eye problems that may arise in the future and upset you.
It is not surprising that myopia, hyperopia and
astigmatism are seen in children. This situation should be recognized
early and the child should be provided with glasses when necessary.
In 20 out of every 100 healthy babies, the tear duct is closed congenitally.
In these babies, severe burring and dirty yellow watering are seen in the eyes.
Pressure massage on the tear duct is usually therapeutic until the baby is 1-year-old.
In infants and children, if there is an unsymmetrical
refractive error between the two eyes, laziness (amblyopia) may develop in one
of the eyes.
This risk is highest for asymmetrical hyperopia.
Strabismus is common in children with lazy eye.
Amblyopia (lazy eye) should be treated before 6 years of age.
A serious retinal problem called ROP may occur in babies
born prematurely and left in an incubator and given high pressure oxygen for a
long time.
It is mandatory for such babies to undergo a detailed retinal examination.
ROP is the result of a baby being born prematurely before a part of the retina has matured.
Fundamental examination reveals a linear ridge between the healthy retina and the immature retina.
ROP treatment can be done with argon laser or cooling
treatment (cryotherapy) can be applied to the outer wall of the eye.
ROP is a serious disease that can be dangerous if not treated early.
It includes the risk of detachment and blindness in the
retina that has not completed its development.
In children, an allergic conjunctivitis (conjunctivitis)
called vernalis in ophthalmology, commonly called spring allergy or pink eye,
is common.
This disease occurs almost every spring until the child
is 20 years old and lasts until autumn.
There is severe burning and itching in the eyes.
Treatment is with eye drops and takes a long time.
It is the inability of the eyes to look parallel.
In children, introversion is most common.
In strabismus, the eye may slide inward, outward, up or down.
An inward slip detected within the first 6 months after
birth should definitely be treated until the baby is 1-year-old.
Laziness in one eye may develop, especially in inward
shifts. The depth of lazy eye is not related to the amount of strabismus.
In a small amount of eye drift, a profound loss of vision may develop.
Outward shift may be seen intermittently in the early
stage. This type of shift may become permanent over time.
Outward shift is more common with myopia.
Strabismus surgery should be performed under general anesthesia.
In surgery, changes are made in the moving muscles on the
eyeball, either increasing or decreasing the function.
Surgery is not required in the treatment of all types of
strabismus, some patients can be treated with glasses.
An eye tumor called retinoblastoma can also occur in children.
Retinoblastoma is a dangerous intraocular tumor.
It is innate. Genetic origin is possible, but not essential.
It is usually treated with surgery.
It can spread outside the eye if not treated early.
