WHICH SPORTS ARE BENEFICIAL?
Low-intensity exercises, walking, swimming and cycling are proper sports activities. Weight lift and long-distance runs should be avoided.
Using walking stick to fight arthritis prevents further damage to joints. Physiotherapy helps reduce pain and muscle spasms and conserve the range of motion. Regular exercise is crucial in treatment of osteoarthritis. Local anesthetic agent can be injected into the knee in order to stop the pain if oral medication and physiotherapy do not help.
Walk a short distance every day if you can. Wear comfortable shoes that properly support your feet while walking. Exercise in sitting position or in water if you are unable to walk. Warm water will support your body weight during exercise and facilitate your movements. Conserve your joints with warm-up before strenuous activities. You can protect your knee joint by wearing knee guards while kneeling.
