Electrocardiography (ECG) is an examination method based on
printing the contraction and relaxation phases of the atria and ventricles of
the heart, the electrical activity that occurs during the stimulation of the
heart and the transmission of the stimulus, on millimetric paper.
In this method, a complex of P, Q, R, S, T, U waves
corresponding to each heartbeat is seen.
Irregularities in these waves give clues to doctors about heart disease.
ECG is usually taken in the following situations:
1. People with chest pain (especially to investigate coronary artery disease)
2. People with palpitations and dizziness
3. People with shortness of breath, lung disease, heart failure
4. People who do not have a significant disease (screening or for preoperative
examination) 5.To investigate the side effects of the drugs used
