Urology is a branch of medicine that deals with problems
affecting the urinary tract system in both women and men and their
treatments. The field of urology also deals with problems with the male
reproductive organs. It is very important to know and recognize the most
common male urology problems. Because these conditions, if left untreated,
can lead to pain, discomfort, and more serious health problems.
Urological diseases include urinary tract infections,
kidney stones, bladder control problems and prostate problems. Some
urological conditions only last for a short time, while others are long-lived.
The urinary system is a very complex
structure. Urology problems cover many different conditions that affect
the urinary tract and reproductive organs. Some of the most common urology
problems affecting men include:
Prostate Problems: It is a soft tissue cloth the size of
a small tennis ball located between the penis and the bladder. The liquid
mixture formed with the sperm is produced. Prostate disorders usually
occur in men over the age of 50.
Erectile Dysfunction: It occurs when a man is unable to
achieve or maintain an erection for intercourse.
Urinary Incontinence: Involuntary incontinence or
frequent urination is usually a symptom of other urology diseases. It can
happen during walking, running, laughing, coughing, and other normal
activities.
Infertility: It should be investigated in case of
pregnancy after an unprotected intercourse for 1 year or more.
Prostatitis: It is an inflammation of the noncancerous
prostate gland. It causes problems in the urinary system organs such as
pain, frequent urination and tremors.
Testosterone Deficiency: When a man’s body does not
produce enough testosterone it causes some problems. Generally, results
such as loss of sex drive, depression, and difficulty concentrating.
Kidney failure: There are disruptions and slowdowns in
the function of the kidneys. It is vital to diagnose the disease in the
early stages.
Urinary Tract Infections: It shows signs of burning
during or after urination. Some people may not have this symptom. It
includes microbial findings that can reach the urinary tract, bladder and
kidney.
Sexual Dysfunction: It covers health problems that
negatively affect sexual life in men. Urologists treat and diagnose the
absence or insufficiency of erection, ejaculation problems, curvature formation
during penile erection, and similar problems.
Congenital anomalies: Diagnosis and treatment of
congenital problems such as kidney anomalies, ureter junction anomalies,
bladder, penis and urethra, testis and external genital anomalies are performed
in the urology unit.
Urethra Diseases: Urethra is defined as the way that
passes urine between the urinary tract and the bladder. This includes
blockages and infections on the pathway.
Genital Warts and Sexually Transmitted Diseases: HPV
virus and one of the most critical diseases that develop accordingly are
genital warts. It is very important for health and must be treated.
If you suspect you may have any of these conditions, you
should be examined by your doctor. These are general health problems we
are talking about. Many reproductive system disorders can be experienced
in these main headings. The sooner urological diseases are treated, the
better you will feel in the long run.

Since urological diseases cover many conditions, the
urology tests and procedures used vary according to the nature of the
subject. Commonly used tests and procedures include:
Abdominal ultrasound: It is a type of imaging method that
allows doctors to examine the abdominal organs, usually the kidneys and
bladder. During the abdominal ultrasound, gel is applied to the skin and a
hand-held device called a transducer is used to scan the abdomen. It is also
used in the diagnosis of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH).
Computed Tomography (CT) Scan: CT (or “CAT”)
scans use imaging technology to create internal images of the body. It is
often used to examine kidney lesions or masses.
Cystoscopy: It is the examination of the inner lining of
the urethra and bladder using a small and flexible fiber optic
telescope. It is used in cases of recurrent urinary tract infections,
painful or bloody urination, other imaging procedures where growth or tumor is
found.
Cytology: It is the in-depth examination of the urine
sample. It identifies abnormal cells, particularly cancer cells and other
organisms in the urine.
Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) or Urogram (IVU): It is the
examination of the upper urinary tract, including kidneys and ureter. An
iodinated contrast agent mixed with saline, known as a chemical dye, is
injected. A series of images are taken to record the spread of the dye
through the kidney and ureter.
Prostate Biopsy: Prostate samples are taken for biopsy,
usually in the case of abnormal rectal exams.
Urodynamics: These are tests aimed at evaluating the
function of the bladder and lower urinary tract.
