In addition, tumor council is held 2 times a week in the hospital, treatment process which requires a multidisciplinary assessment of the status of oncology patients is planned effectively. Chemotherapy treatment of patients is provided in the Chemotherapy Unit at the hospital. The cancer should be treated by considering the psychological stresses experienced by the patient due to effects and concerns for the treatment process, psychosocial needs of the patients.

Radiotherapy is a treatment method aiming to kill cancer cells by using high-energy radiation.

Radiation therapy affects the normal cells, too; so the treatment should be done carefully by experienced hands to minimize side effects.

Radiotherapy being administered during cancer treatment can be given externally with guidance of a machine or it can be administered with radioactive agents inserted into or close to the tumor cells.

Patients can be administered radiotherapy before, during or after the surgery depending on type of the cancer. Radiation oncologists decides the administration type of radiation treatment. This may depend on various factors:

• Type of the cancer

• Grade of the cancer

• Localization of the cancer inside the body

• How much the cancer is close to radiation-sensitive tissues.

• How far the radiation should go beyond in order to reach the targeted region

• General health condition of the patient and medical history

• What types of other cancer treatments will be administered

• Other factors such as age and other medical conditions

Radiotherapy can be administered as monotherapy or concomitantly with chemotherapy.
