Ice Hat for Hair Loss in Chemotherapy
As it is known, the goal of chemotherapy is to destroy rapidly growing cancer
cells. However, many chemotherapy drugs cause unwanted hair loss by
affecting the hair follicle cells as a side effect.
The most effective method found to eliminate this situation is to cool the scalp
during chemotherapy. If the scalp can be cooled sufficiently, the blood
vessels normally required to nourish the hair follicles contract, stopping the
blood flow to the scalp and preventing the drug from reaching the hair
follicles and causing damage during chemotherapy.
This method, which has started to be used in the Kolan Hospital Group medical
oncology department, also supports the treatment of the disease in a positive
way, as it enables many patients to continue their daily life as usual without
disconnecting from their work and social life.
