Although some substances are not harmful, some people may experience an excessive
reaction in any contact. When these substances, called allergens, come
into contact with our immune system, although they are not harmful, the body
produces an excessive amount of antibody-protective substance against this
substance. This condition is called allergy.
People with an allergic body are also called atopic. Once our immune system comes
into contact with the allergen substance, it displays an excessive reaction and
saves it in its memory. Thus, the next time he encounters that substance,
he shows hypersensitivity by producing a protective substance immediately,
because he has previously remembered and recognized it.
Substances that form specific antibodies against itself in the organism are called
antigens. When this antigen develops an allergic condition, that antigen
is called an allergen. Allergens are normally harmless particles for most
people. However, they cause allergic diseases in people with atopic
nature, which is prone to allergy development.
Allergic diseases are chronic diseases that develop with the coexistence of genetic
predisposition and environmental factors. Therefore, they cannot be transmitted
from person to person and 30% of the population has allergies.
Allergens can be divided into 5 main groups:
1. Drug allergens
2. Occupational allergen
3. Food allergies
4. Insect allergies (the most common is bee allergy, mosquito, other stinging animals, cockroach excrement is allergic)
5. Environmental allergens:
a. House dust mites
b. Pollens (the amount in the air and the duration of air stay are important in the
emergence of allergy. Pollens that do not stay in the air do not cause allergy.
Also, since the pollen structure of some plants is similar to each other,
allergy can be seen against these plants.

Allergic rhinitis (allergic rhinitis): 10% of the population has allergic rhinitis. Allergens

Rhinitis symptoms: Runny nose and congestion in the patient are symptoms such as
sneezing, nasal itching, decreased smell.
It occurs as a result of allergy to tree pollen, meadow pollen and weed
pollen. When these allergens are intense in the atmosphere, complaints
become apparent. It is also referred to
as spring allergy .
Depends on allergens or irritants in the work environment. Signs of allergic
rhinitis such as sneezing, runny nose and congestion occur after entering the

It causes complaints such as redness in the eyes, burning, stinging, swelling and

In asthma, the airways become sensitive to all kinds of stimuli (allergens,
infections, smells, cigarette smoke). The stimuli cause narrowing in the
airways and increase in secretion.

and frozen foods, seafood, jams, jellies, dried fruits, benzoates and parabens

prevent spoilage and increase flavor in products, are substances that can cause
food allergy.
The most common food allergens for children is cow’s milk because of the protein
called beta lactoglobulin, which is not found in cow’s milk, also egg seafood,
peanut grains, kiwi can cause food allergy. Food allergy symptoms usually
come with abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, vomiting, swelling in the mouth.
It is called allergic eczema. The skin is dry, itchy, red and
inflamed. Symptoms are usually seen in the elbow pit, the back of the
knee, the inner part of the wrist, above the foot, the ear edges, the neck and
around the eyes. Affected skin areas are itchy. In the itchy areas,
the skin thickens over time, and flakes form on it. Sometimes blisters and
infection may appear on itchy areas of skin.
Urticarial (hives) are red, pale, superficial and itchy skin rashes around. The rash
starts suddenly, itchy and raised plaques. Acute urticarial usually
resolves within 24 hours, and the urticarial lasts less than 6 weeks. If
the factor that causes urticarial affects the deeper layers of the skin, the
picture called ANJIOEDEM occurs, it is in the form of tissue swelling with
indistinct borders that occurs in the loose areas of the skin.
It is an allergy that manifests as redness, itching, watering and crusting on the
skin surfaces that latex-containing products come into contact with. Substances
such as mercaptobenzodiazole, theorem and carbamate used in the processing of
natural latex material are responsible for these types of allergies rather than
latex proteins. However, as the integrity of the skin is broken due to
contact eczema, the real latex allergy occurs in these patients when latex
proteins are absorbed through the skin cracks.
Defense cells recognize drugs taken as foreign substances, and allergic reaction may
occur when drugs are taken into the body. All drugs have the potential to cause allergies.
Signs and Symptoms Occurring in Drug Allergy:
Anaphylaxis: The most dangerous type of reaction that can be seen after drug intake can occur
within minutes, low blood pressure, flushing and swelling in the body, throat
congestion (larynx edema) loss of consciousness, wheezing is seen, if not
treated immediately, it is life-threatening.
Drug Fever There may be rashes on the skin.
Vasculitis Rashes on the skin, especially in the legs and buttocks, accompanied by fever,
muscle pain, joint pain, weakness.
Serum Disease: It is seen 6-21 days after drug intake, fever, weakness, skin
rashes, lymph nodes enlarge
Other Findings: Measles-like rash, cough, itching in the throat, nasal
discharge, congestion, nausea, vomiting, cramping pain may be seen.
Since molds and house dust mites breed easily in humid environments, the
house should be sun-exposed, damp-free and bright.
There should not be excessive items of carpets that may cause dust to be
kept in the rooms.
Do not use a pillow and duvet bed filled with wool feather, double duvet
cover should be used
Ornamental plants should not be kept in the bedroom.
