Breast Reduction

Most of the patients who apply with the complaint of
breast size need breast reduction operation due to health problems beyond
aesthetic concerns.

Especially
at a young age, breast size causes the person to face psychological problems. Breast
size also affects the skeletal system. The weight of the breasts forces
the body forward and triggers discomfort such as neck hernia, hunching in the
back, loss of strength due to nerve compression in the arms. This pressure
in the skeletal system increases with osteoporosis. The solution to these
problems is usually surgery and breast reduction surgery is required.

How is the surgery done?

It is aimed to achieve the maximum shape formation with
the least surgical scar. Therefore, preoperative breast measurements and
drawings should be planned well. This stage is at least as important as
surgery for the surgical result to be achieved.

Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty, provides a reduction in
breast size, shaping and a more upright appearance to the breast. In these
surgeries, the skin, subcutaneous fat tissue and breast tissue, as well as milk
gland tissues are removed from the large breast.

In breast reduction surgeries, not only reduction, but also lifting and lifting
operations are performed. In addition, if the size of the nipple called
areola is large, it is also possible to reduce it and shape it.

Although it varies from person to person in breast reduction surgeries, scars under the bra
area or bikini are seen. These scars appear as inverted T, J or L shaped
scars around the nipple-areola and towards the sub-breast fold area, depending
on the surgical technique and the degree of reduction of the breast. These
traces, which are prominent and red in the first months, become less noticeable
in later times.

Although the duration of the operation varies depending on the size of the breast and the
techniques applied, it takes around 2-4 hours.

What are the points to be considered after
the surgery?

The operation takes place under general anesthesia. Usually,
the patient is discharged after an overnight stay in the hospital.

About 1-4 after surgery. Drains are placed in both breast areas to be removed on
days. Pain is seen in the first 2 days to decrease with painkillers. It
is also possible to see swelling or bruises around the breast. However,
these usually pass completely after 2 weeks.

Special sports bras are worn to reduce post-operative edema. It is possible to
return to desk jobs 4-5 days after the operation. Exercise and heavy
lifting is generally not recommended for 3-4 weeks.

It takes 6-12 months for the swelling of the breast to completely disappear and the
breast to take its final shape.
