The heart’s work is done by electrical
impulses from the sinus node. The process of writing the electrical
currents in the heart on paper is called electrocardiography (ECG), the device
that performs the process is called an EKG device, and the printed paper is
called an electrocardiogram. Since these currents are at the millivolt
level, that is, they are of very low amplitude, they must be amplified
(amplified) and printed by EKG devices. In practice, EKG means the paper
on which these electrical currents are printed.
EKG gives valuable information about heart

the patient, can be applied everywhere and is cheap.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that ECG alone
may not be useful in diagnosis. Especially in cardiovascular diseases, it
is absolutely necessary to evaluate the patient’s complaint, examination
findings and, if necessary, other laboratory methods.
There is no need for special preparation of
the patient for ECG recording. The procedure is not painful or distressing
for the patient. It can be taken anywhere, with the patient lying
down. Metal plates called electrodes are attached to 2 arms, 2 legs and 6
chest area via a cable connected to the EKG device. Thus, the electric
potentials formed in the heart through these electrodes are printed on the
paper. Total processing time is 1-2 minutes. However, rhythm
recording can be taken for a longer time, especially in cases where there is a
rhythm problem
Our center, which was established in 1992, started to monitor the electrolyte of our patients for 24 hours with portable devices that can send ECG signals over the phone for the first time in our country. In this system, the ECGs taken from the patient are instantly evaluated on the computer screen and if an abnormal situation is detected, the patient’s doctor is immediately contacted and informed. At the same time, the patient’s ECG is instantly transmitted to the doctor by fax. When necessary, the patient is transferred to the nearest equipped hospital. Cardiologists were serving 24 hours a day in the center. Redline transtelephonic monitoring system, which served mostly for follow-up purposes when it was established, was preferred in the following years for long-term monitoring of arrhythmias that could not be diagnosed with 24-hour Holter. In addition, 12 derivation devices have been given to doctors and polyclinics in different parts of Turkey; Instant comments were made with the signals sent from the place, information was transferred to urgently needed interventions and hundreds of patients’ lives were saved.
Our organization also brought a 24-hour holter to our country alongside the transtelephonic holter, and continued to make its name known in the cardiology community as the first holter center in private.
