Endoscopy

The stomach and intestines can cause many health problems
at different times of life. Reflux disease, in which the acid in the
stomach escapes into the esophagus and causes irritation, peptic ulcer and
gastritis caused by the bacteria called acid and Helicobacter Pylori, colitis,
sometimes microbes and sometimes spontaneous intestinal infections and also
malignant diseases that develop in the stomach and intestines are the first to
come to mind.

Endoscopic methods play a very important role in the
diagnosis and even in the treatment of digestive system
diseases. Endoscopy means looking inside. With gastroscopy , the esophagus,
stomach and duodenum are examined from the mouth. With colonoscopy , the entire
large intestine and the last part of the small intestine are examined starting
from the anus.

During these procedures, a flexible tube, or endoscope,
with a high-tech camera placed at its end, is used. During endoscopy,
samples can be taken from suspicious tissues for pathological examination or
polyps can be removed completely. Polyps are the initial lesions of most
cancers that develop in the digestive system, especially in the large
intestine, but they usually do not cause a complaint before they turn into
cancer. The easiest way to find polyps is by endoscopy (colonoscopy,
gastroscopy).

Patients generally do not feel any discomfort during
endoscopic examinations because sedatives and pain medications are used during
the examination.
