We provide professional support in Laser therapy for eye blood pressure – SLT.
Glaucoma, popularly known as eye
pressure It is the failure of the normal flow of this fluid and
the increase in pressure in the eye due to the problem experienced in the
channels that provide the absorption of the aqueous humor fluid produced to
protect and nourish the eye lens. When this increase becomes continuous,
compression occurs in the optic nerves, which play an important role in visual
function. Self-renewal or repair of optic nerves is not possible due to
the structure of these nerves. With various treatments to be applied,
advanced vision problems can be prevented. Therefore, when glaucoma is not
controlled, irreversible vision problems occur. Early diagnosis and
treatment gain importance in patients with glaucoma (eye pressure) problems.
SLT(Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty ), also known as laser
therapy for eye pressure, is a practical and highly effective laser
treatment method used to reduce intraocular pressure in the treatment of
open-angle glaucoma . It
can be applied by an ophthalmologist in a very short time in the office
environment. Intraocular pressure can be reduced by 25-30% in the vast
majority of patients with laser treatment in ophthalmic pressure. SLT is
an alternative method to drug treatment and surgical intervention that can be
reapplied when necessary, easy to apply for the patient.
SLT treatment performed under office conditions. It is not an
application that requires any surgical intervention and is a procedure
performed in the patient’s chair without entering the operating room. At
the beginning of the treatment, the patient’s eye is anesthetized using
anesthetic drops. In this way, the patient does not feel any pain and
suffering during the procedure. After numbness occurs, laser treatment is
applied between 40 seconds and 1 minute in the trabecular area where the
outflow of intraocular fluid is provided. The aim of the treatment is to
widen the clogged and narrowed channels. Anti-inflammatory eye drops are
used to prevent inflammation in the patient’s eye after the laser
procedure. After the application, the patient is kept under observation
for several hours in order to monitor the intraocular pressure and prevent any
complications.
aqueous humor Constrictions and blockages in the channels where the
fluid is absorbed are the main cause of glaucoma discomfort. In eye
pressure, laser treatment and low-dose laser beam affect the clogged
canals. As a result of this effect, some chemical and biological changes
occur in these cells. Thus, enlargement occurs in the channels where the
humoral fluid is absorbed. The therapeutic effect is to accelerate the
outflow of aqueous humor and reduce the increased intraocular pressure. SLT
can show its real effect 1-3 months after it is applied. In the vast
majority of patients, intraocular blood pressure drops by 25-30%. This is
at the same level as prostaglandin analogues, one of the most effective
glaucoma drugs used. If the patient is already using glaucoma medication,
a decrease in this level can be observed. The effect of the treatment can
last between 1-5 years.
Open-angle glaucoma patients and patients who did not respond to drug therapy,
Patients who received adequate drug therapy for the
treatment of glaucoma but did not respond to the treatment at the desired
level,
In patients with high risk of glaucoma in ocular
hypertension and in patients deemed appropriate to control intraocular pressure
without the use of medication,
The side effects of the drugs they use affect their daily lives,
It is applied as the first treatment method for patients
who have not started drug treatment after the diagnosis of glaucoma.
Laser treatment in ophthalmology has very few side
effects. Side effects may vary from patient to patient. From this
point of view, it does not contain any risk. Very little inflammation may
occur immediately after the application. This side effect can be relieved
within a few days with anti-inflammation drops. In some cases, intraocular
blood pressure can rise to very low levels. This low and short-term rise
that occurs immediately after the treatment is considered a normal
situation. This rise can be brought under control with various drug
supports in a short time.
After the SLT application, the patients were observed on the 1st day,
1st week and 1st day. At the end of the month, the eye pressure should be
checked. Afterwards, the routine control period increases between 4 and 6
months. In this process, it is important that the patient does not
interrupt regular physician check-ups. Certain degrees of vision loss due
to glaucoma can be regained after SLT treatment . In
some of the patients, a decrease in intraocular pressure can be achieved by
applying only laser therapy, while in others, it is desirable to use drugs to
reach the targeted levels. It should be known that laser therapy for
glaucoma is not a permanent treatment for glaucoma, just like drug and surgical
applications. Therefore, it is important for the glaucoma patient to be
under the control of an ophthalmologist regularly for the rest of his life.
