When should I go to a primatologist?

A person does not even need to be pregnant to come to a
primatologist, the primatologists’ duty begins before pregnancy. If there
is a chronic disease in the mother, in cases such as diabetes, collagen
connective tissue diseases and blood pressure, a pregnant woman should be
followed up by a perinatologist both related to the branch of the disease in
which she is located and gynecology. Before the pregnancy begins, it is
clear that a woman with such diseases will have a risky pregnancy. This
woman is in the risky pregnancy category.

A second situation usually occurs after the 20th gestational
week, such as problems with the baby detected during pregnancy or problems with
the mother detected during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes that did not
exist before. With the addition of protein in the urine, preeclampsia,
which we call pregnancy poisoning among the people, may occur. Such
situations put the mother in the risky pregnancy group. These risks
sometimes affect only the mother negatively and sometimes affect both the
mother and the baby. In some problems related to the baby, it can put the
mother in the risky pregnancy category.

What is the primatologists’ duty?

What we do more is to examine the baby’s organs and
determine whether there are any problems with the baby. These detections
are at the earliest in the 3rd month, that is, 11-14. It is started with a
double test in the week of pregnancy. In the early period, nuchal
thickness, nasal bone, hands, feet, heart, stomach, bladder, and double
arteries in the umbilical cord are examined in the early period of the baby. The
baby’s brain needs to be between 19 and 20 weeks to be fully completed and
evaluated. During these periods, we can diagnose whether the midline
structures of the brain are normal or not, blistering hydrocephalus and some
brain anomalies. Severe heart problems are many situations such as the
inability of the baby to urinate and some cases where the bladder is swollen. As
a primatologist, the first 3 months and 11-14 in such cases.

What is a dual test?

A double test is performed by entering the baby’s nape
thickness, nasal bone, and the baby’s head and butt distance. At this
stage, down syndrome and a few other similar conditions are screened. There
are some limit values ​​in
the double test, if it is detected above these limits and values, the baby is
in a risky situation and an intervention should be made accordingly. Among
the people, their names are called color ultrasound, four-dimensional
ultrasound, detailed ultrasound, second level ultrasound. All of this is
the same thing. Here we are examining the baby’s organs, looking at the blood
flow, looking at the echo, evaluating the baby’s heart. We examine, detect
and intervene early, before and after pregnancy, for any risk situation that
may have negative consequences for the baby and the mother.
