Avienna Hospital makes use of robotic surgery in areas such as urology, cardiovascular diseases, general surgery, colorectal surgery, obesity surgery, gynecology surgery, ear nose throat surgery, and treatment of thyroid diseases. Avicenna Hospital’s surgeons, each of whom are experts in their field, benefit from the advantages of robotic surgery.
When it comes to robotic surgery and its
advantages, the first thing that comes to mind is the low blood loss and the
low need for blood transfusions. Again, since large incisions are not made
during the surgery, the postoperative pain of the patient is also reduced. Accordingly,
it causes a serious decrease in the use of painkillers. In addition, due
to the same reasons, there is a decrease in the hospitalization time of the
patient. After the operations performed with the robot, there is a big
increase in the rate of returning to the daily physical activities of the patients.
Infection risk decreases after robotic surgery. The
reason for this is that the abdomen is not opened with a large incision and the
bleeding is reduced. The results that will make the patients aesthetically
happy are obtained. Because there are no scars that large incisions will
remain in the body, 3-4 tiny holes opened to the patient are sufficient for the surgery.
While images are obtained with a single camera in
standard closed surgeries, two high-resolution cameras are used in robotic
surgery. A comfortable surgery is experienced with three-dimensional
images that can be enlarged up to 12 times. In other words, the robot can
enter places that the doctor cannot enter with his hand, and it can see
structures that are too small for the doctor to see. Thanks to the robot,
the surgeon managing robotic surgery can perform the operations comfortably
even in places that cannot be reached anywhere in the body.
Robots used in robotic surgery generally have
four arms. While 3 of these arms hold surgical instruments and devices, 1
of them holds a high-resolution image camera. Two of these arms are
considered and functioning as the doctor’s right and left arm. Consequently,
they hold surgical instruments held in the right and left hands. The third
arm undertakes auxiliary tasks such as holding the tissues, pulling the tissue,
and helping the stitches during the surgery. As mentioned above, the 4th
arm holds the camera and instantly provides a high-resolution image to the
surgeon. There are special joints at the ends of the arms. Thanks to
these joints, none of the problems experienced in two-dimensional laparoscopic
(closed surgery) surgery are experienced.
With the robot, all hand movements of the surgeon during
the operation are reflected on the robot. However, with a special
technology in the robot, the surgeon’s hand tremors are not reflected on the
robot. This causes robotic surgery to be preferred in surgical procedures
that require great precision.
