Description

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the condition in which the breast tissue
grows and the feminine breast image appears due to reasons such as genetic
disorders, hormonal conditions, various diseases, excessive alcohol
consumption, drug use in men. Gynecomastia also causes social problems
such as self-esteem problems in men, posture disorder, and the influence of
clothing style.

It is necessary to differentiate this situation from the physiological gynecomastia
that can be seen in adolescence in men. The condition that causes
gynecomastia should be investigated. After the underlying cause is
revealed, the surgery is planned.

What are the stages of gynecomastia?

There are three types of stages in gynecomastia. The first stage is growth in
limited sizes. In the second stage, the breasts are larger, but there is
no sagging. The third stage is the stage in which there is sagging along
with the growth in the breast.

Gynecomastia does not improve with sports or drug
use. However, a solution can be created with a few surgical or medical
methods. The treatment to be followed is determined according to the
stages of gynecomastia. For the first stage, liposuction, laser lipolysis
methods or sometimes bio lipolysis injection is sufficient. In more
advanced gynecomastia, excess tissue must be surgically removed to remove
sagging.

How long does the surgery take?

The duration of the operation takes 1-2 hours depending on the technique to be applied.

How is the surgery done?

Gynecomastia may develop due to adipose tissue, mammary gland tissue or both fat and breast
tissue. In gynecomastia caused by adipose tissue, only liposuction surgery
is sufficient, in other cases, the excess fat and breast tissues are removed
with a half-moon incision made around the nipple. In addition to excessive
fat and breast tissue, there are cases where some skin removal may be required
if there is excess skin.

What are the points to be considered in
the postoperative period?

The patient is discharged on the day of surgery or after
staying in the hospital overnight. Although there is a pain that will
decrease with painkillers on the first day, no excessive pain is
expected. After the operation, drains are placed in the breast, sometimes
to be removed 1-2 days later.

The patient returns to work after the 3rd day, provided
that he does not work in very heavy work. Heavy exercises and excessive
lifting are not recommended for a month. Braces are recommended for
approximately 3-4 weeks after surgery.
