We provide professional support in Constipation Outpatient Clinic.
At the Constipation Outpatient Clinic of Anadolu Medical
Center, our patients who have constipation complaints are assessed using a
multidisciplinary approach under the coordination of the Gastroenterology
Clinic and with the support of Radiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology
Departments and other clinics.
At the Constipation Outpatient Clinic, we correctly guide and treat our
patients in the light of current level of knowledge, using our existing
capabilities and capacities effectively.
At our Outpatient Clinic, your age, symptoms, finding and individual
characteristics are evaluated, and tests to be performed are decided. Every
patient does not necessarily take all examinations and test methods that can be
used for this purpose.
The necessary equipments and methods used for the
assessment, diagnosis and treatment of constipation are as follows:
·Anorectal manometry (evaluation
of the muscular functions of the anus and the large intestine).
·Colonic transit time (the length
of time it takes for the content to travel through the large intestine)
·Endoscopic interventions
(Sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy)
·Defecography (radiologic
evaluation of defecation function)
·Balloon expulsion test
·Gastric emptying time
The Constipation Outpatient Clinic is coordinated by the Gastroenterology
Clinic. When further examination and treatment is necessary according to the
specific condition of the patient, we work with a broader team consisting of
the departments of Diet and Nutrition, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine,
Endocrinology, Nephrology, General Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and
Urology.
Constipation may occur as a result of digestive diseases, or may develop
as a result of anomalies in dietary habits or as a side effect of some
medications.
The causes of constipation may be listed under the following main
headings:
·Lifestyle (lack of exercise) and
abnormal eating disorders
·Stricture or obstruction in the
colon or rectum
·Abnormalities of the nerves
surrounding the colon or the rectum
·Dysfunctions of the muscles that
play a role in defecation
·Hormonal diseases and changes
(diabetes, thyroid diseases, etc.)
Before visiting your doctor, preparing answers for
potential questions that may be raised during the conversation will have a
guiding role for your doctor to understand your situation better and to plan
the tests and treatment approach.
