Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a branch of Internal Medicine (Internal Medicine) which deals with digestive system diseases. Examines the disorders of all digestive system organs from mouth to anus (mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, gallbladder, liver, pancreas). Endoscopic diagnostic methods and ultrasound are frequently used in this science.

Clinical signs and symptoms of gastroenterological diseases are as follows:

• Constipation

• Diarrhea

• vomiting

• Nausea

• Abdominal pain

• Abdominal swelling

• Burning sensation behind the bone of the faith board from the stomach to the mouth

• Pain in the mouth – sour water

• Stomach burning, indigestion

• Pain in the gallbladder (upper right abdomen)

• Blood from the rectum

• Nutritional disorders

• Breech pain and swelling

Diagnostic Procedures in Gastroenterology Clinic

• Endoscopy (can be performed by sedation)

• Colonoscopy (can be performed by sedation)

• Flexible Rectosigmoidoscopy (can be performed by sedation)

• All kinds of biopsies related to these procedures

• Ultrasonography

• Liver needle biopsy

• Biopsies from intra-abdominal lesions

• Paracentesis

• ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreaticography)

Treatment:

• Endoscopic and colonoscopic polypectomy

• Sclerotherapy and clip applications in bleeding patients

• Endoscopic Band Ligation

• Endoscopic Tissue Adhesive Applications

• Esophagus, Stent and balloon dilation applications in stomach and colon stenosis (Ex: Achalasia)

With ERCP;

• Sphincterotomy to relieve bile flow

• Stone removal from bile ducts

• Stent placement in benign and malignant biliary strictures

• PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy – Insertion of a feeding tube from the abdominal skin to the stomach in patients with malnutrition)

• Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomic Jejunostomy (Insertion of additional tubes in Jejenum to prevent reflux-induced aspiration pneumonia in patients with PEG)

• Nazo – Jejunal Tube Installation

• Percutaneous drainage (drainage tube) placement in patients with large amounts of acid or intraabdominal abscess

• Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of cirrhosis and its complications

• Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease

The most important factor that prevents the patient from appearing to the gastroenterologist is the anxiety and fear of the procedures. All procedures in our clinic are performed by experienced gastroenterologists. In addition, since there is an anesthesiologist in charge in our unit, all procedures are performed under sedation if the patient wishes and if there is no clinical obstacle.
