COLONOSCOPY

It is the equipment used in large intestine examinations. Examination is conducted anally. For this examination to be successful and sufficient, large intestine must be cleansed free of stool through the use of some drugs. Gastroscopic examination can be performed if the patient had been hungry for 8-10 hours, however, for colonoscopic examination, appointments can only be made for 3-4 days later. During this time period, the patient is advised not to eat certain foods for the success of the examination. They are advised to take the drug prescribed on the night prior to examination to cleanse the intestines. Next morning, an enema is carried out especially for the cleansing of the last part of the large intestine. Enema can be carried out by the patient at home, or applied in the hospital.

Colonoscopic examination is usually carried out with general anesthesia, but it can also be performed without it if the patient prefers so. The patient must be hungry.

This examination can last 15-20 minutes, during this time equipment is inserted till the location where large intestine meets the small intestine or even till the end of small intestine. Colonoscopic examination can be used as not only a diagnostic tool, but also as a treatment method just like in gastroscopic examination.

In colonoscopy; infectious intestine diseases, vascular diseases, polyps, diverticulitis, tumor, foreign objects can be identified and some of them can be treated.

ENDOSCOPIC ULTRASONOGRAPHY

Used in the diagnosis of esophagus, stomach, duodenum, gall bladder and bile track diseases.

We suggest this examination method when; the cause of swelling detected through the gastroscopic tests of the esophagus, stomach or duodenum cannot be diagnosed properly. Also for the tracking and rating the spread of tumors in the stomach/intestine track, this examination can be applied. Therefore, the surgeon can be given valuable information for the surgery.
