Description

Liver Cancer

Diagnosis

Patients with cirrhosis and hepatitis can be diagnosed during
follow-up. The first step in making a diagnosis is a doctor’s
examination. In this examination, growths in organs such as the liver and
spleen in the abdomen, accumulation of fluid called acid, yellowing of the skin
and eyes are detected. The high level of a substance called alpha
fetoprotein in blood tests supports the diagnosis of liver
cancer. Abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic
resonance imaging help diagnose by imaging the liver. For a definitive
diagnosis, a biopsy of the liver with a fine needle should be taken and
pathologically examined in the presence of imaging methods. If liver
cancer is diagnosed as a result of the biopsy, staging is required to understand
the prevalence of the disease in the body and to decide on the treatment method
to be applied. Staging can be done with the help of computed tomography
and magnetic resonance imaging, or sometimes with an intervention called
laparoscopy under general anesthesia.

Treatment

The main treatment for liver cancers is surgery. In cancers
limited only to the liver, if the general condition of the patient is suitable
for surgery, the diseased liver tissue is removed and surgical treatment is
applied. The size, number and location of the cancer determine the amount
of liver tissue to be removed during this surgical procedure called
hepatectomy. The amount of liver tissue that will remain behind during
this procedure is also sufficient for the patient to survive.
is necessary. Liver transplantation from a healthy donor can also be
performed in cases where the liver needs to be completely removed due to
cancer. Cancer tissue can also be destroyed by using heating
(radiofrequency ablation, laser) or freezing (cryosurgery) methods in some
patients with or without surgery. However, the effectiveness of these
methods is less than surgery. Drug therapy (chemotherapy) is applied after
surgical treatment or in patients who would not be suitable for surgical
treatment. In this case, a single drug or different drug combinations are
given to patients at regular intervals. Drugs can be given to the whole
body from a vein in the arm, or can be given only into the liver from the vein
of the liver (hepatic artery) with the help of a catheter placed during surgery
in patients undergoing surgery. Sometimes, radiation therapy
(radiotherapy) can be added to drug therapy. In this case, with the help
of external devices, high-energy rays are directed to the upper right part of
the abdomen where the liver is located, and treatment is applied. Patients
are followed up at regular intervals after they complete post-surgery
medication and radiation treatments. During the follow-up, the liver and
intraabdominal organs are monitored with ultrasonography, computed tomography
or magnetic resonance imaging methods to check whether the disease has recurred
or not. Cancer recurrence usually occurs within the first two
years. Depending on the condition of the recurrent cancer, surgery,
medication or radiation therapy can be applied to the patient. Patients

Prevention

In order to be protected from liver cancer, infection with hepatitis viruses
should be avoided. You can be protected from the hepatitis B virus by
getting vaccinated. In addition, it should be paid attention that there is
no aflatoxin in the food taken. Since it may cause cirrhosis and liver
cancer in the long term, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided.

Our service

Health Tourism is generally gathered under 4 main headings.

  1. Thermal health tourism
  2. Medical Tourism
  3. Elderly Tourism
  4. Disabled tourism

Health tourism aims to offer medical options to ensure the comfort of patients and their families. In parallel with the high level of education and welfare in developed countries, the provision of health services is also costly. The share of healthcare needs and healthcare expenses of the aging population in developed countries is increasing day by day. Increasing costs of social security costs are forcing social security institutions. In order to overcome these difficulties, social security institutions and private insurance institutions in developed countries are trying to get health services at low cost by making package agreements with countries that offer quality medical services and nearby.

In recent years, tourists come from all over the world for treatment purposes, as Turkey also provides health services at a level that can compete with qualified health services in developed countries. Especially after the 1990s, it was seen that the private sector made serious investments in health services in addition to public health services.

As a result of these developments, private health institutions have started to increase, especially in big cities, at a level that can compete with European standards. Opening these health facilities, which have high costs in terms of construction and operation, to foreign markets is gradually becoming a necessity in terms of reducing these costs. In addition, its geographical location and trained and educated manpower in the health sector are among the important advantages of Turkey in health tourism. In addition to the patients who come for medical purposes, health tourism offers healing with its thermal springs and thermal waters thanks to the natural richness of our country.
