Nose aesthetic surgery (rhinoplasty)

It is an operation that corrects deformities in the
nose. A beautiful appearance causes the person to feel mentally and
spiritually well and to increase their self-confidence. Since the nose is
in the center of the face, it is an important organ for facial beauty and
therefore aesthetic nose surgery is one of the most performed plastic surgeries
all over the world. With rhinoplasty surgery, the nose can be reduced,
enlarged if necessary, and deformities can be corrected.

However, although rhinoplasty is an aesthetic surgery,
other problems that cause nasal congestion such as curvatures in the nose and
nasal congestion can be treated with the same surgery. Even in some
patients, it is not possible to obtain a good functional result without
performing the nose surgery in the form of rhinoplasty. Therefore,
rhinoplasty surgery should not be considered only as an aesthetic surgery
operation.

Before rhinoplasty surgery, all problems of the patient
and expectations from the surgery should be determined at the doctor-patient
consultation, and the patient should be informed about which problems can be
corrected with the surgery. The purpose of rhinoplasty surgery is to
create the most suitable nose shape for the patient’s face. The issue that
needs to be emphasized here should be examined in detail between the face and
nose for each patient and the type of surgery to be performed should be
determined by talking to the patient. One of the most common situations
encountered by aesthetic nose surgery doctors is that the patient wants a
natural nose. Therefore, a good rhinoplasty surgery aims to create the
most suitable nose shape for the patient’s face, which is natural, is not known
to have surgery.

Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed under general or
local anesthesia. Usually, patients are discharged on the day of surgery
or kept in the hospital for a day. After the operation, the tampon placed
in the patient’s nose is kept for a day or two. In our patients, we use a
special silicone or spongy tampon that allows the patient to breathe. The
patient’s nose is fixed with a special plaster or splint for a week, and at the
end of 1 week, the plaster is removed together with the stitches, if any. Then,
fixation is applied with special tapes in 1 week. Therefore, 10 days to 2
weeks of rest is required after aesthetic nose surgery, depending on the work
done by the patient. I recommend my patients to come for the examination
again in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th months after the operation, even if there is no
problem.

After the operation, swelling may occur around the nose
and under the eyes, and these resolve within 1-2 weeks. Contrary to what
is known, there is not much pain after surgery and simple pain relievers are
usually sufficient for pain.
