We provide professional support in Pneumotorax.
The condition of lung collapse and inability to do its
job as a result of the filling of air from our lungs into the chest is called
air leakage from the lung or “Pneumothorax” in medical language. It may be
due to many reasons or it may be spontaneous. It is more common especially
in thin, tall young men if they are smoking. In these, small tears, which
are formed by the bursting of bubbles that develop in the lung tissue that
cannot fully develop at the top of the lung, as a result of the increase in air
pressure, are the most common cause.
It occurs in 5-10 per 100,000 smokers, more often in tall, thin, young adult males. It is 6
times more common in men than in women. In our country, there are around
13,000 pneumothorax cases per year, and nearly 10,000 of them are treated by
hospitalization. Nearly 40% of the patients are in the 15-45 age group and
one third is male. Around 700 cases of pneumothorax due to injuries and
accidents have been reported annually.
