Premature retinopathy (rop)

Retinopathy of prematurity, a serious eye disease that
occurs in preterm babies and can result in blindness, is usually called as ROP as a short name, which consists of
initials of retinopathy of prematurity.

During pregnancy which normally takes 40 (+/- 2) weeks, the
development of the eye is parallel with the development of the baby in the
mother’s womb during pregnancy, this development is interrupted due to
premature birth, eye vessels are not yet ready to complete the development af
the outside world.

In this process, due to many factors, some premature
babies can’t catch up normal developmental rhythm.

Occurring indiscriminate vascularity, besides providing
benefit to other vessels and eye tissues, adversely affect the progression of disease
can lead to blindness.

Because of these dangerous properties, ROP is one of the
most important and preventable blindness causes of childhood in developing
countries.

By an experienced ophthalmologist, Rop can be easily controlled by
regular examinations and treatment. The task of every parent who has a premature baby in the fight
against this disease is to let baby to appropriate
clinics and physicians to perform ROP when their babies are 1 month old.
