The sleep test, also called polysomnography, is a method used for the
definitive diagnosis of sleep disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea
syndrome. This test is performed by monitoring the patient with sensors
placed in various parts of his body while sleeping during the night. The
greater the sensitivity and number of sensors used, the more information about
the extent of the disease can be obtained.
As a result of this test performed in the sleep
laboratory, the number and duration of breathing pauses experienced during
sleep, the level of oxygen depletion that occurs with this, and the
irregularities in heartbeat are determined, and the extent to which sleep is
affected by these problems is revealed. Thanks to the comprehensive
findings obtained during this test, it is very easy to determine the severity
of the disease and to plan the treatment.
